About CompareSignatures.com
CompareSignatures.com compares two images of a signature and tells you, in plain language and with the measurements to back it up, what agrees, what differs and how much weight the result can carry.
Why we built it
Signatures are checked every day on contracts, registers, applications and payment instructions, usually by eye and under time pressure. A careful side-by-side comparison takes time and training. This service does the measuring for you: it isolates each signature, separates the writing from any oval or underline drawn with it, and compares the two letter by letter, the way a document examiner would approach it.
How a comparison works
- You upload two images. Each file is checked, re-encoded and stored privately under a random reference. Nothing is sent to third parties.
- Each signature is cleaned. Background, printed lines and specks are removed and the signature is scaled to a common size.
- The signatures are measured. Dozens of characteristics are compared: proportions, slant, letter formation, loops, pen lifts, spacing, line quality, the shape of any flourish, and the overall stroke pattern.
- You get a report. A similarity score, a qualified opinion, a written comparison, the images and every measurement, ready to read on screen or download as a PDF.
What the result means
The report states an opinion on a five-step scale, from strong support for different writers to strong support for the same writer, and says when an image is identical or is the same signature captured twice. The opinion is deliberately cautious: it is limited when image quality is poor, when a signature is very simple, or when the line quality differs.
This is an automated aid. It does not replace a qualified forensic document examiner, and it cannot reliably detect a skilled forgery from images alone. Where authorship matters legally or financially, have the original documents examined.
